Thesis + "Thin" + Lunch

I just finished that thesis I mentioned in my last post. I also did a search for "eating disorders" in my library's catalogue, and discovered that we have a lot more books hiding away than what I've read. I wrote down the call numbers of them, so before work I'm going to check some of them out.

I also found out that we have a copy of the documentary Thin. Have any of you seen it? I'd heard of it, but never seen it, so I might check it out as well.

I'm leaving soon to get lunch with a guy friend. We both work on campus, so we're meeting up while he's on his break. We're not really close, but he asked me if I'd get lunch with him a few weeks ago. It's got me curious, as normally he just talks to Boyfriend, as they're really good friends. And as I'm close with his recent-ex-girlfriend, I'm wondering if he's going to use this lunch to dig for information. I guess we'll see soon enough. I don't know where we'll be going, but hopefully it'll be somewhere with cheap food and small portions.

Hunger and Thirst + Reading

The past few days I've noticed that I've had a greatly diminished appetite. Yay! However, I'm constantly thirsty. At work, I keep seeking out bubblers (water fountains, etc.) and gulping down cold water. I'm just so thirsty. But that's better than hungry.

Also, I'm in the library now reading a thesis from the mid-90s about eating disorders and women's literature. It's really interesting. I'd recommend it to you, but it's a thesis, and therefore you wouldn't be able to find it unless you were at my university. But whatever.

New Apartment + Books + Inspiration

Today will be our second night in our new apartment. And I had a salad for lunch/dinner. I love having a grocery store with a salad bar, fruit bar, soup, etc. in it. Whoo!

Also, I've checked out a couple more ballet books from the library. Once is called Dance As Life, and from what I've read so far, is really interesting. It's a look at the life of dancers n the ABT and ABTS. I also got The Ballet Companion, which goes through how to pick a dance class, what to wear, auditions, exercises, and everything else! And it's got one of those lovely built-in ribbon bookmarks that I love.

Inspiration!

Moving + Wasted

I'm moving in 5 days, though Boyfriend and I already have access to the new place. It's really close to where we are now, but bigger. And there's a pool on the grounds, an exercise room, and gorgeous courtyards. And the extra space means that I'll be able to stretch and work out at home. I haven't been stretching as much lately, and it shows. I'm all stiff.

Also, I'm about halfway through Wasted already. It's so interesting. Once I finish, I may write a review of it on here.

Stay strong!

Purge: Rehab Diaries

As I mentioned in a previous post, Purge: Rehab Diaries by Nicole Johns is one of my favourite eating-disorder-related books. And I came across it at the library a couple days ago and checked it out... again. And I finished it... again... last night. It's such a great look at rehab facilities. I love it. I'm thinking about writing a letter to Nicole Johns to let her know how much I enjoy it.

What is your favourite ED-related book? Any suggestions?

Book Recommendation

I saw this book at the library, and figured I'd let you all know. It has charts showing the nutritional facts of food at restaurants and "ranks" foods from best to worst for you.

Eating Disorder Books

Here is a list of my favourite ed-related books.

Purge: Rehab Diaries
I am especially a fan of this book because the rehab clinic the author went to is in my area. While she doesn't name it, she does talk of sneaking away to places I've been to, which is very exciting, It's a very well-written book.

Stick Figure: A Diary of My Former Self
This book is literally the published diary that the author came across when she was an adult and found it tucked away in her childhood things. It gives a nice inside view of a young girl's struggle with anorexia.

The Truth About Life After Eating Disorders
This book, written by a woman who apparently also wrote a memoir about her eating disorder, refutes the myth I hate that an anorexic or bulimic can ever really be "cured."

The Best Little Girl in the World
This is not a memoir, but a great book about an anorexic ballerina. It was the first book I ever read about eating disorders.

Going Hungry: Writers on Desire, Self-Denial, and Overcoming Anorexia
A collection of essays, this book deals with a variety of topics on eating disorders. It's a great quick read.
