Purge: Rehab Diaries

As I mentioned in a previous post, Purge: Rehab Diaries by Nicole Johns is one of my favourite eating-disorder-related books. And I came across it at the library a couple days ago and checked it out... again. And I finished it... again... last night. It's such a great look at rehab facilities. I love it. I'm thinking about writing a letter to Nicole Johns to let her know how much I enjoy it.

What is your favourite ED-related book? Any suggestions?

My favorite ED books is Wasted by Marya Hornbacher. I've read it at least ten times, and Marya is the most amazing person I've ever read. You should check it out!
You blog looks interesting :) I look forward to reading more. I used to be a dancer too.

I've heard really good things about Wasted; I really need to read it. I wish they had it at my library. I'll have to check the public library.

And thanks! I've danced on my own since I was a kid, since my family couldn't afford lessons, but I'm glad my uni has a great dance program.

I took ballet classes for 14 years, but I got injured and now I can never dance again. Pretty lame :/
It's great that you danced on your own! I hope you get into your school's dance program :)

That's horrible! What happened, if you don't mind me asking?

I got Achilles tendinitis, which made it difficult for me to jump, releve, pretty much everything. I ignored it for three years, and now it's chronic. I also made it worse by not eating enough, and therefore it couldn't heal. Even today, I can't go hiking or run or go shopping for long periods of time, because my tendons start to hurt and I can't walk anymore. I miss dance :(

That's horrible. I'm so sorry. That's one of my biggest fears with dance, especially as I already have weak ankles. But I have good teachers who encourage us to sit out of class for a day if we hurt ourselves.

Don't worry, I've gotten used to it by now :) I'm glad your teachers are good like that. My teachers always made me feel like I was doing something wrong if I sat out when I was injured. That's why I always went back early, and that's why I'm still injured even though I haven't danced in 3 years.

Just be careful, ok? Don't let yourself be pressured into going back too early if you are injured.

My absolute favorite is Wasted- diary of a bulimic and anorexic. Marya Hornbacher is so amazing. I want to write her and tell her how much I love her writing:)
